How To Setup WS_FTP Tutorial
If you do not have a WS_FTP client please visit http://download.com and search for "ws_ftp". The LE addition is one of the best and can be downloaded and used for free. Download the file to your computer (remember where you are saving it) and then double click that file to install.
When you open WS_FTP it will look like the following
You should enter the following:
- Profile Name: inmotion (any name you recognize is fine here)
- Host Name/Address: SERVER-NAME.inmotionhosting.com
- Host Type: UNIX
- User ID: your_username
- Password: your_password
- Save Pwd: check to save your password
- The left side is your computer and will show a listing of the files in your current folder. At the top is the location bar indicating the current folder.
- To move up a folder just double click on the green arrow pointing up.
- To move into a folder just double click that folder.
- If you need to change to another drive double click on the letter at the bottom of the window.
Click OK
Next you will see two windows - Local System and Remote Site:
When you are ready to put a file on the Remote Site just click it once then click the arrow key pointing to the right. To transfer from the Remote Site use the left arrow.
*KEY* - Remember to put all information you want available on your site in the public_html folder.
The File Type you should use depends on the file you are transfering. Most times you can just check the Auto option, but occassionally you may have to manually select ASCII for .html, .cgi, .pl, .php, or any text file. Binary is for .gif, .jpg, or any image files.
NOTE: File names can not have spaces or special characters like (%*# or others. You can store your window locations by selecting Options->General->Save Window Location
